Who are we?
Rinkel is a telecommunications scale-up founded in 2014 in the Netherlands. We offer a SaaS telephony platform that revolutionises the way freelancers and small businesses communicate. Carrying two phones at all times, eSIM, and working with extra SIM cards: begone! With Rinkel you have your business phone number(s) and your private phone number on your own mobile phone, separated from one another. So that any business owner and employee can easily keep work & life separated the way they want.
Our founders are techies, which means we don't consider software engineering an afterthought, a necessary evil or an expense. It's in our DNA. We're passionate about transforming a conservative telecom market, where most applications come from the Age of Dinosaurs. We do this by designing and building intuitive software by applying User Centered Design principles. From networking to mobile apps: everything is done in-house, which allows for rapid prototyping ("fail often, fail fast") and enables us to stay ahead of the competition. Some past projects include building our own Webphone using WebRTC. To give you a sneak preview: we're currently working on some fun projects containing AI, which you can be a part of!
Next to that, our first international office is located in Barcelona! Besides its hot tech scene which is a perfect match for us, it's also the first country where we've launched our product (besides the Netherlands of course). You will join a small team already working in the Barcelona office (which has sea view, and is located right next to the beach!). To ensure team synergy and to integrate new hires into our current team, employees will have the option to travel between Barcelona and Rotterdam on a regular basis.

About the role
As Rinkel is growing, so is our platform. We are constantly expanding our product offerings and services to better serve our customers. As a Senior Software Engineer you will be responsible for the development of our backend services and customer portal, working with our team of Software Engineers and System Engineers to design and implement new features and functionality for our cloud business phone system.
As a Senior Software Engineer, you will:
- design, develop and maintain our Node.js based backend & React frontend
- collaborate with the team to identify areas for improvement and propose solutions
- write clean, efficient and well-documented code
- troubleshoot and debug production issues
- take ownership of the codebase and actively contribute to its evolution
- work closely with our product team to ensure the highest level of quality and user experience
Who are you?
For this role, we need you to have:
- strong proficiency in JavaScript, React and Node.js
- knowledge of REST APIs and websockets
- familiarity with Agile development methodologies
- excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
- strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with others
- passion for learning and staying up-to-date with the latest technologies
- a good level of English (both spoken and written)
