What is an international phone number?

An international Rinkel number is a business number with the country code of a country other than your own. Think of a Belgian number starting with +32, or a German number with +49. For customers in that country, it looks like a local business. They call at their normal local rate and recognise the number straight away.

With Rinkel you manage that number from the same app or browser-environment as your other Rinkel numbers. No separate SIM card, no desk phone, no complicated systems.

Why get an international phone number?

A local number abroad strengthens your position in three ways:

  • Recognition: Customers in Germany would rather call a +49 number than a foreign one. It feels like a local business, not a company calling from overseas.
  • Lower barrier: No international call charges for your customers, no confusion over country codes. Calling feels as natural as ringing a local business.
  • Professional image: Your business looks established in that country, without needing a physical office there.

An international number makes most sense if you regularly do business in one or more specific countries. If you only occasionally call foreign customers or suppliers, making calls from your Dutch Rinkel number is usually enough.

Which countries can I get a number in?

Rinkel provides international numbers in dozens of countries. Numbers available straight away include:

  • Spain, France, Germany, Belgium, Italy, Austria

To get an international number you'll need proof of address in your chosen country. That's usually a home or work address, sometimes alongside a company registration or utility bill.

I used to be a customer and switched to a VoIP number, but I didn't like it. I'm back now because I know it works. In addition, the customer service is very fast and helpful.

FAQs about international numbers

How does calling from abroad to my Rinkel number work?

Calling your Rinkel number from abroad works exactly the same as calling from the Netherlands, with one difference: the caller needs to use your country code. So instead of dialling your number directly, they'd dial the full international format with +31 at the start, dropping the leading 0. You receive the call in your app or via call forwarding, just like any other call.

Can I use my Rinkel number when I'm abroad?

Yes. Your Rinkel number works anywhere in the world, as long as you have internet or mobile signal. You call out from your own Rinkel number and your customer sees your regular business number — not a local number from wherever you happen to be. For calls within the Netherlands and to 50+ supported countries, your normal rate applies, with no roaming surcharge.

Is calling a Dutch number from abroad free?

No, calling a Dutch number from abroad isn't usually free. The cost depends on the caller's provider. With a Rinkel plan, you call from abroad to Dutch numbers at your normal rate: € 0,06 per minute on Essential, unlimited on Professional and Expert.

What does calling abroad cost with Rinkel?

Calling to more than 50 countries costs the same as calling within the UK: € 0,06 per minute on Essential, unlimited on Professional and Expert (Fair Use). No per-country surcharge, no roaming costs. For countries outside the list below, use your mobile network.

Available destinations (alphabetical):
Australia, Austria, Bangladesh, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, Iceland, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Mongolia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, United Kingdom, United States.

Can I use my business number while I'm on holiday?

Yes. Your Rinkel number works abroad just as it does at home. You call and receive calls as if you're in the Netherlands — no roaming surcharge. Handy if you want to stay reachable for customers while you're away. Or if you'd rather not: with business hours and custom greetings, you control exactly when you're available.

Can I call from abroad to the Netherlands?

Yes, calling the Netherlands from abroad works seamlessly with your Rinkel plan. Just use the Dutch country code +31 and drop the leading 0. For example: +31 85 1234 567 instead of 085 1234 567. For calls to Dutch numbers, your normal rate applies even when you're overseas.

Which country code do I use to call abroad?

Use the country code of the country you're calling, and drop the leading 0 from the local number. For Germany that's +49, for France +33, for Belgium +32. It's worth saving country codes directly in your contacts — that way you won't need to think about it when you call.

What if my country isn't in the 50+ list?

If your destination isn't on the 50+ list, you can't call there through your Rinkel plan. You'll need to use your mobile network — just watch out for your provider's roaming charges. Not sure whether a country is supported? The Rinkel support team can help via chat or 085 0609000.

What do I need proof of address for?

Most countries require proof that you have a business presence there before they'll assign a number. Usually a home or work address is enough, sometimes alongside a company registration. The Rinkel support team will tell you exactly what your chosen country needs.
