How do I change my microphone and sound settings?

Have you connected a new microphone or headphones and do you want to use these for making calls with the Rinkel Webphone? Or do you want the sound to come from your computer? No problem! You can easily adjust your microphone and sound settings in the Webphone.

In this article, we will describe how to:

  1. Change the microphone and sound settings for making calls

  2. Change the output of the ringtone

1. Change the microphone and sound settings for making calls

You can do this in 5 and a half easy steps:

  1. Go to the Rinkel Webphone in My Rinkel

  2. Click on the cogwheel in the top left corner and choose Microphone & sound

  3. Select which microphone and/or audio output to use, using the drop-down menu.

  4. Test your microphone by speaking into it and see if the bars under the microphone tab on this page light up. If they do, your mic works like it should!

  5. Test your sound by clicking the 'test' button next to the chosen sound device. If you hear the ringtone, the sound works properly and you will have no trouble hearing the person you are on the phone with.

  6. Happy with your settings? Don't forget to hit Save.


2. Change the device where the ringtone will be playing

  1. Go to the Rinkel Webphone in My Rinkel

  2. Click on the cogwheel in the top left corner and choose Incoming calls

  3. In the next screen, select using which device your ringtone should be played. For example, you can choose to have your ringtone played over your computer speakers. The sound of the call itself will then remain however you've set it up under the Microphone & sound settings we discussed above in this article.If you chose to have your calls use your headset, this will remain this way, regardless of your Incoming calls setting. Additionally, you can select here if your incoming calls should be delivered on your phone as well.

  4. Happy? Don't forget to Save of course!


3. Troubleshooting

What if I can’t find my microphone or headset in the list?

Then that device is not currently connected to your computer. Connect the device using a cable or Bluetooth and try again.

I've given Chrome access to my microphone, but it still doesn't work.

Then it's probably the settings on your computer or laptop. Here is how to solve this:

How do I change the system settings on Windows?

  1. Click on the Windows icon at the bottom left of your screen and then on the cogwheel icon with Settings.

  2. Now click on Privacy and then Microphone.

  3. Select "Change" and then check Allow apps to access your microphone.

  4. After giving access to your microphone, you can choose which apps can use your microphone.

How do I change the system settings on iMac/MacBook?

  1. Go to the Apple icon on the top left of your screen and click on System Settings.

  2. In the next screen, select Security and Privacy and then Privacy.

  3. Select Microphone.

  4. Select Google Chrome.

  5. You may have to restart Google Chrome for it to work.
